Chronic stress has become a common issue amongst today’s working generation. Surveys (such as from the American Psychological Association) state that there has been a significant increase of stress levels, reported by adults.

Cannabidiol is a powerful remedy to alleviate stress. Not only is it effective but it consists of solely natural components and does not evoke any side effects, like other stress relieving pharmaceutical medicine.
There are different kinds of stress and not all of them are necessarily bad. In some situations (such as before exams or a job interview) stress can be motivating and beneficial for the outcome thanks to increased cortisol and adrenaline levels and in other situations stress helps being higher functioning on a cognitive level as well has improving attention.
The kind of stress we are looking at – chronic stress – can be recognized by several symptoms such as a weaker immune system, disturbed digestion and issues with reproduction. Chronic stress also shows itself in mood swings, namely feelings of anger and irritability.
As the name “chronic stress” already implies, it is the kind of stress that is persistent and a feeling that is difficult to shake off. Chronic stress that can come from different sources, for example from too much work, emotional stress or social anxiety.
Cannabis will not resolve the problems connected to the stress’ source but it can help control some sources and manage stress more effectively.
To understand how CBD affects stress (and other medical conditions), you need some knowledge about the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a system that regulates appetite, sleep, pain, immune response and many other functions within our body.
The endocannabinoid system is trying to keep functions and reactions balanced but once it is unbalanced it can lead to illness or stress.
Cannabis works together with the ECS and helps keeping it balanced by sustaining a balance with the help of cannabinoids like CBD (or THC).
CBD helps regulating and nourishing the balance through the ECS, which reduces chronic stress.
Another factor is the neurotransmitter anandamide (also known as AEA), which is a cannabinoid, produced by our body. A study revealed that low levels of anandamide can lead to higher stress levels.
CBD, a cannabinoid found in cannabis, helps preserve anandamide and therefore, helps reduce stress.
Managing stress with CBD
Stress can be managed with CBD by finding the right administration and dosage to consume it. The best option is to either have a consultation with your doctor or a doctor specialised on medical cannabis or you slowly start on a lower dosage and see how you react.
CBD cannot be your only solution to cope with stress, but it can certainly help you to control it. You should also incorporate other healthy habits in your daily routine, such as healthy food, exercise and other stress reducing activities.
